SHEFIGHTER - THE MIDDLE EAST'S FIRST WOMENS SELF-DEFENSE COURSE

SHEFIGHTER - THE MIDDLE EAST'S FIRST WOMENS SELF-DEFENSE COURSE

SheFighter was started in Jordan by Lina Khalifeh, creating the first self-defense course for women in the Middle East.

It is no lie that women are not as physically strong as blokes. This is not to say that women are weaker in general. Sadly, in some parts of the world women are perceived as easy to take advantage of and in some cultures, there is a belief that some people have the right to violate a woman. If you find yourself in a dangerous situation and you have done some self-defense or martial arts training, sure, a strong jab could be a good way to let someone know they have no right to your body. This is of course easier said and done and sometimes fighting back isn’t an option even though we might imagine that we could take care of ourselves in the event of an emergency.

Lina started teaching women how to defend themselves in a basement in her native country of Jordan in response to the high rates of sexual assault in the country. When word spread and demand increased, Lina opened her SheFighter studio.

Courses range from beginner (3 months) all the way up to badass master level (10 months) for anyone willing to learn.

Oh and Emma Watson went and did a course, and used the opportunity to speak to Lina about gender equality and challenging gender stereotypes as part of the One Young World Summit

Badass.
